Dr. X. Hong Liu, is a 1985 Graduate from Beijing Union University
in Beijing, China. She has a Medical Degree from this University,
and has been in practice for over 20 years.
Her study in China focused on Bi-Medicine which is a combination
of western medicine, such as, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology,
Internal Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacology etc. and Chinese medicine,
including Acupuncture, Pharmacology of TCM, Internal Medicine of
TCM. She can offer a diagnosis in terms of western medicine and
Chinese medicine, provide acupuncture, herbal treatments or western
medicine drugs, if necessary.
Dr. Liu worked in a hospital in Beijing, China for over 5 years
as a physician specializing in TCM Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.
After immigrating to Canada, she was certified for practising
Acupuncture by AABC (Acupuncture Association of British Columbia)
by successful completion of their board exam. She is also a certified
member of the CAFC (Acupuncture Foundation of Canada). In 1994,
Dr. Liu opened the first Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre in
St. John's, Newfoundland. She was the first in Newfoundland to have
a Canadian Provincial Acupuncture licence from British Columbia.
Dr. Liu specializes in Acupuncture and herbal medicines for the
common cold, soft tissue injury, pain management and other chronic
conditions. Her training in these areas has been extensive. Acupuncture
was a part of her program of medical studies in Beijing. It was
integrated into both her western medicine and Chinese medicine courses.
She also followed special tutelage for traditional acupuncture.
From this she has learned the Chinese theory of Acupuncture as
well as western approaches to diagnosis. She has learned:
- To communicate with patients and the medical profession
- Classical Chinese acupuncture
- Anatomical Acupuncture
- Herbal Medicine combined with Acupuncture
- To treat conditions such as stroke, shingles, multiple sclerosis,
Bell's palsy etc.
Dr.
Liu has successfully met the standards for certification and is
recognized as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialits by the National
Acupuncture Detoxification Association - NADA.
As well, Dr. Liu has recently attended the Lincoln Medical &
Mental Health Center Acupuncture Training Institute, New York City,
and successfuly completed the Lincoln training program in the use
of acupuncture for substance abuse.
